Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. She founded Feminist Frequency, a site with videos and guest posts discussing the depictions of females in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and a prestigious feminist for more than 10 years. Feminist Frequency, a website to educate women about their positions in the pop culture narratives was the result of her research. Additionally, she serves as the director of operations. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes about women and how they are depicted in pop media. Additionally she aims to create awareness of online harassment directed at women, and other those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social, political and philosophical thought. Apart from being an acclaimed public speaker she has made speeches at the TEDxWomen The XOXO Conference as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was fascinated by gender issues and feminism since a early time. When she graduated in 2009, continuing to study at the university level she launched her Feminist Frequency website. It was a girl who wanted to create the series of videos on the internet to examine the gender roles in games. However, she became the victim of online harassment. It was not enough to deter her. In fact, it made her more committed to be a feminist as well as media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded several awards for her contributions to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency, an educational organization that focuses on the way women are depicted in media narratives.
